"Because seeing and sketching are so interdependant, it is difficult to learn to see before beginning to sketch, and vice versa. Drawing is the key to effective seeing, and seeing is the key to effective drawing."- Paul Laseau from FREEHAND SKETCHING

"Gathered" Matthew 18:20

I love to paint scenes the are evocative of a time in rural America that is disappearing.  This scene of an old abandoned church that is slowly falling into disrepair really caught my attention.  I can imagine a time when this place was the hub of activity in this rural community.  I named this piece "Gathered" because I was reminded of a verse in the gospel of Matthew...."For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them."  I hope that this painting pays homage to those who, however few, still "gather" in in His name.
